Swiss Snow Sports Receives Big Boost

For the past 4 years the Schweizer Schneesportinitiative has been reigniting the Swiss passion for snow sports. The campaign has been created by the key stakeholders in Swiss snow sports. These include the Association of Sports Retailers Switzerland (ASMAS), the Association of Swiss Sports Offices (ASSA), the Umbrella Association for Teachers Switzerland (LCH), Swiss Cableways, the Swiss Tourist Board. Association, the Federal Office of Sport FOSPO, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO, the Association of Swiss Sporting Goods Suppliers (SPAF), Swiss Snowsports, Swiss-Ski and the Swiss Youth Hostels.

To achieve their goals the Schweizer Schneesportinitiative operate a programme called Gosnow.ch which provides schools throughout the country cost effective snow sports camps. Each camp includes transport, accommodation, food, lessons and equipment rental all of which can booked through an easy to use online sysrem. The programme has already yielded excellent results and for the coming winter gosnow.ch is set to have another record year. Already, 200 snow sports camps and more than 10’000 participants have booked. This an increase of 2’500 persons on the last season and is estimated it will yield just over 3 million Swiss francs for local economies.

In addition to the snow sports camps, GoSnow.ch will also offer snow sports days. This programme will see school student receive transport to and from a resort, day pass, rental equipment, lunch and snow sports lessons. "At the end of such a day, virtually every child can tackle a blue run on skis or a snowboard" says Ole Rauch, Managing Director of the Swiss Snowsports Initiative.

Finally, GoSnow.ch will receive a large boost from the Swiss Federal Council. The Council have recognised the positive impact of the whole programme and as such children who participate in the camps will now receive a 12 CHF instead 7.60 CHF subsidy. Given that the cost per child per day cannot exceed 16CHF, this increase in the subsidy will be a significant assistance package.
