FIS Youth and Childrens Seminar Ready
The annual FIS Youth and Children's seminar is ready to go
Started in 2003, the FIS Youth and Children’s Seminars were established to identify and address possible problems facing youth in snow sports. Since its inception programmes such as Bring Children to the Snow and FIS Safeguarding have come to fruition. Now in 2019, the 17th edition of the seminar will take place and the focus will be on two topics, nutrition and expansion of snow sports through Roller Skiing.
The Seminar will take place on the 2nd October 2019 during the FIS Autumn meetings in Zurich (SUI). To present and provide solutions to possible problems with nutrition, FIS has invited two key note speakers Dr. Samuel Mettler, Nutritionist for Swiss Sports School Magglingen and Lecturer at the University of Zurich and Martin Rinderer Nutrional Coach at the Austrian Olympic Centre. The presenters will open the seminar presentations titled “Basic Elements of Nutrition for Youngsters” and “Nutrition in Competition for Youngsters”. Following the presentations an open panel discussion will take place where audience members will be able to engage the experts and ask questions.
Following the morning session focus will shift to the second part, expansion of snow sports through Roller Skiing. To open the topic, FIS Cross-Country Technical Delegate Georg Zipfel will provide a brief overview of what is Roller Skiing. This will be followed by presentations by the Thai, Brazilian and Timor-Leste National Ski Associations who have all successfully used Roller Skiing to expand interest in snow sports in their respective countries. Finally, a demonstration will be provided on-site by the Swiss National Ski Association.
All in all the 17th FIS Youth and Children’s Seminar is set to be an active and informative day. Here is the programme and be sure to click the link below for the presentations for all the previous seminars:
